"The first edition of the Haute Route came to a superb end on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, France as 300 riders crossed the finish line in extraordinary style and a wonderful atmosphere. It was a moment to be savored for the riders as they realised their dreams of completing the toughest and highest cyclosportive in Europe. The emotions were intense -- from elation to relief, many shedding a tear at the fulfilment of their own personal objective. Over seven days the riders from 27 different countries took on the mammoth 730km course over 15 famous and heart-pumping Alpine cols with over 17,000m of ascent -- it was not a challenge for the feint-hearted as the Haute Route firmly lived up to its name."
